Nana Addo Praises Late Party Founding Member

Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo-Addo, 2012 Presidential candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), on Friday advised party supporters to emulate the lives of party founders especially the late Tolon-Naa Alhaji Yakubu Tali to build a winsome party. He encouraged the party faithfuls to work hard and remain dedicated and committed to party activities as exhibited by the founders to ensure that the NPP wins power in 2016. Nana Akuffo-Addo gave the advice at a durbar held by the chiefs and people of Tolon in the Tolon District, to celebrate the life of the late Tolon-Naa, Alhaji Tali, who died some 28 years ago. He described the late Tolon-Naa Alhaji Tali, who was en-skinned as the Tolon Naa in 1916 and died in 1986, as a beacon of the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition, whose inspiration continued to reign supreme. Nana Akuffo-Addo said the role played by the late Tolon-Naa Alhaji Tali, and other compatriots, such as Mr S.D Dombo and Mr J.A Braimah in the formation of the Northern Peoples Party (NPP) as a political party, could not be underestimated for which reason they were worth celebrating. He indicated that the late Tolon Naas political life began in 1948 when he was elected as representative of the Western Dagomba District Council to the Northern Territories Council and later represented the Dagomba South constituency in Parliament. The late Tolon-Naa Alhaji Tali was also Assistant Secretary to the Dagomba State Council from 1948 to 1952. The Tolon Naa, Major Rtd. Abubakari Sulemana, Regent of Tolon, admonished the party aspirants to be mindful of the task ahead, more especially, with the recent revelations during the election petition to ensure that mistakes of 2012 were not repeated to enhance the NPPs fortunes in 2016. He called for unity of purpose and praised party members for their immense dedication to the tradition of the NPP and acknowledged the relationship that existed after the formation of the Danquah Busia-Dombo Tradition. He expressed the hope that the countrys many challenges would be addressed if Ghanaians voted for the NPP in the next election, adding that, the eight years of former president Kufuor speaks volumes of the ability of the party to spur on economic transformation. Mr Clement K Tedam, a Founding Father of the Party, reminded the aspirants contesting the various positions of the NPP congress to be disciplined, civic and remain united and stronger after the congress, to brighten the partys chances 2016. Avoid the use of derogatory words against your contenders and remember all of you are from the same stomach. Display the credentials of democracy, which is one of the pillars of the party, he said.
