The Eastern Regional Grasscutter Farmers Association are planning to export grasscutters abroad. Revealing this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview, the chairman of the association, Mr Kwame Ampim acknowledged that though the members of the association are facing challenges of meeting local demand, they will not allow that to derail their target of reaching the international market. He said, it is the ambition of the association to promote grasscutter farming as a means of employment to get more young people into the business to increase production to meet both local and international demands. Mr Ampim said the grasscutter farming could open up other forms of employment for people to help in appropriate packaging of the grasscutters to meet international standards as well as professionals to handle the international marketing of the produce. He expressed the hope that large scale rearing of grasscutters in the country could help reduce bush fires in the country since the demand for grasscutters from the wild would reduce and hunting of grasscutters which sometimes is associated with bush burning would also reduce.
