Asabee: NPP Needs Not Elect A Flagbearer NowStrengthen Structures First!!!

Outspoken leading member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Hon. Asamoah Boateng has slammed those pushing for an immediate proposition from the newly elected national executives to elect the Flagbearer for the party as a wrong approach to end the factionalism in NPP. According to the former Minister for Information and former Member of Parliament for the people of Mfantseman West, the NPP Delegates Conference just ended in Tamale with new leaders with different ideas, saying the party needs a re-structure to make it more formidable to wrestle power from NDC rather than threading on the old path of electing a Flagbearer. He stressed that what NPP needs after its Conference is to allow the new crop of the current executives to have ample time and space to build the party from the grassroots as it is needed to give enough attention to the polling stations and its constituencies where the partys strength resides. He maintained the current executives should build the kind of structure needed for the party to be strong enough to withstand any pressure before considering the option of opening nomination for interested candidates to vie for the presidential slot. He however urged those interested in leading the NPP to exercise patience as the current executives need their space and time to plan for the party. The current executives need space and time to operate and change some structures in the party before thinking of organizing congress for the presidential slotthey must not succumb to any pressure in order to avoid the factions in the party. The early congress to choose Presidential candidate will undermine the authority of the new executives...I wish they push the Flagbearership race afar to have time to work and map out a strategy for the party; the mindset must change from who will lead the party but rather build the polling stations and constituencies first..those who want to contest the Flagbearership race must exercise patience..if the structure is strong from the grassroots, popularity does not count that much because we can use 3 months to sell any good candidate. It is not the length of time that makes one popular but rather the effort and charisma the person has to convince people within a short period; leading a group is not just by your name, it is by having a good relationship with the people, Hon. Asamoah Boateng said in an interview on Okay Fms Ghana Decides program.
