Three Illegal Miners Die In Pit At Brumasi

Three persons who were prospecting for gold nuggets at Brumasi in the Prestea/Huni Valley District have been killed. The victims, a male and two females, died in the early hours of Tuesday when the pit they were working in collapsed on them. The victims were identified as Joseph Yeboah, 32, Atta, 23 and Attaa, 36. Mr. Kofi Adu, a farmer at Brumasi, told the GNA on Tuesday that Joseph organized the two women who were twins but not related and asked them to go for some gold sand in a pit at Brumasi. He said while they were conveying the last batch of gold sand the pit collapsed. Mr. Adu said two died on the spot and the third person died at the Prestea Government Hospital while receiving treatment. The District National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) Coordinator, Mr. Iddrisu Salifu Mohammed, confirmed the incident to the GNA and said he had earlier visited that particular site and warned the illegal miners to end their operations as the rains had set in. He said they refused to adhere to his advice and rather sneaked to the site.
