Kumasi: Family Of 3 Burnt To Death

Three members of a family were burnt to death at dawn today after their rented apartment caught fire at Bremang Abusuakuruwaa, a rural community in the Kumasi metropolis. Fire officers from Manhyia brought the fire under control but could not salvage any item or rescue the victims. Other co-tenants of the 7-room apartment however managed to escape unhurt. Ultimate Radio�s Joseph Oppong Brenya who visited the scene reports that the skeleton of the deceased could be found at the scene. The dead are Akwasi Owusu, and his son Collins Owusu. The woman, whose identity co-tenants could not immediately confirm, is believed to be the fianc�e of the man, was burnt beyond recognition. Their remains have since been conveyed to the morgue. A co-tenant tells Ultimate Radio, they made efforts to rescue the victims but were unsuccessful. �The lights were off before we went to sleep. It was switched on but the current was low so some parts hard light and others didn�t. We went to sleep thinking it will be restored. Later at dawn, I heard my brother shouting that a house was on fire. I woke up and carried my children with me so we could get out of the house through the main gate. The victims� door was locked so we couldn�t open the door to rescue them. We came and shouted for help and then neighbors came around but could not open the door of the deceased family. The man, his wife and their son were burnt to death�. There is no immediate clue as to what may have caused the fire as officials of the Fire Service are investigating the incident.
