Displaced Residents Of Afigya-Kwabre Rainstorm Ask For Help

More than a hundred residents in separate communities of the Afigya-Kwabre District in the Ashanti Region have been misplaced after strong winds and heavy rains swept through the district on Monday. The storm collapsed several buildings, and left others with no roof, leaving some residents with injuries. But the affected residents are yet to receive any relief items three days after the incident as the district national disaster management organization has no supplies. The DCE for Afigya-Kwabre, Kwaku Kaakyire Oppong-Kyekyeku told Ultimate Radio, the district is now looking to the NADMO head office in Accra because the Assembly has no funds to support the people. More often than not, it is the assembly that assists the NADMO but unfortunately, the district itself is cash trapped. So we have just appealed to the national NADMO office and other philanthropists to come to our aid he bemoaned. Mr. Oppong-Kyekyeku however blamed the incident which has almost become an annual ritual on the failure of residents to adhere to proper building practices. At the beginning of every rainy season, we encounter this kind of storm and its consequential disasters. It is about time we take tree planting very seriously because things can really get out of hand in the future. Most of the affected buildings were as a result of shoddy work and developers must see the need to engage the services of competent and qualified artisans he admonished. The affected areas included Boamang, Amoako, Kyerekrom and Maase.
