Health Alert 8 Out Of 10 Men Have HPV

Statistics have shown that eight (8) out of every ten (10) men is infested with the Human Papiloma Virus (HPV). The HPV virus, according to doctors, has no cure but rather has medication that only manages its spread and growth. This was made known on First Digitals Morning Show, The First Show which hosted medical practitioners, Dr. Jehu Appiah and Dr. Dan Owusu-Ansah. HPV is a virus that can be transferred sexually and cause diseases such as cervical cancer in women. At higher stages in men, they develop some rashes and blisters around the penis of a man. Dr. Jehu Appiah, who is the Country Director for IPAS and also in public health service, said Ghana is sitting on a time-bomb when it comes to outbreak of diseases. He said HPV is a virus that has affected 1000s of people who even have no idea of the disease cervical cancer let alone its causative agent papiloma virus. He advised the public not to shy away but subject themselves to at least 3 times check-up procedure annually as a safety measure. Dr. Owusu Ansah of the Health Soul Clinic cautioned women of men who have contracted the virus but are hesitant to let their partners into the problem. He said this increases the risk of women who engage in sexual affairs with men without finding out about their status. He therefore advised women to take interest in their partners sexual organs as a check measure for any abnormality and vice-versa.
