A Kumasi-based spare parts manufacturer, DAF House Enterprise has called for government support to produce large quantities of made-in-Ghana spare parts to feed both the Ghanaian and international market. Owner of the company, Mr Jones Kwadwo Tuffour said this would save the country millions of dollars used in importing used spare parts into the country. The company manufactures all kinds of spare parts for DAF, KIA, Renault trucks, VIP buses and other vehicles at Suame Magazine in Kumasi. Speaking to The Finder in an exclusive interview, Mr Tuffour revealed that the spare parts he manufactures are as good as the original ones from car manufacturing companies. This is because he uses metal instead of the brass and cast used by the car manufacturers. He emphasised that the metal-made spare parts are able to withstand the bad nature of our roads. He also revealed that he is capable of manufacturing any part of a truck. Mr Tuffour appealed to government for assistance through Public-Private Partnership (PPP) to acquire state-of-the-art machines to engage in large-scale production for both local and international markets. According to him, it is high time government paid serious attention to the manufacturing sector in the country, since it is the surest way of getting Ghana out of its economic doldrums. He reiterated that China is now an economic powerhouse in the world all because of the Chinese government�s support for local industries. "If Ghana is to do same, we all can help reduce high unemployment and boost our economy and bring development to our country," he stated. He expressed concern about lack of skilled labour in the country, and entreated government to provide the enabling environment and support for the harnessing of manufacturing of automobile parts and repairs of vehicles. Mr Tuffour opined that with 15 years of experience in the manufacturing of parts for heavy-duty DAF and KIA trucks, he is ready to transfer knowledge to others. He said: �Our country is in need of artisan engineers to serve the rising demands in the automobile industry.� He mentioned that artisans and engineers at Suame Magazine have the ability to project the nation in the best light, but added that they lack government support. Products of the company Some of the parts manufactured by DAF House Enterprise include KIA, Rhino, Direct Cooling Fan, Renault Axle Cases ,DAF Double Axle Seal, Case spider gear washers, various sizes of bearing, DAF XF Belt Part, King Pin Bearing, DAF XF 95 Fan Extension, King p.b. washers. Others are DAF Water Pump Shaft ,KIA Grand Bird Gear Box Coat , eat on coat , various sizes of brass , XF king pin bearing, Renault Double Spider Case. DAF House Enterprise is also capable of repairing spider gears, driving gears, axle cases and pinions DAF axle case.
