6 Ghanaian Youngsters To Benefit From Arsenal Coaches As Part Of Airtel Rising Stars

Six of the best players from Ghana who took part in the 2013 edition of Airtel Rising Stars National Championship are in Kigali, Rwanda to take part in a one - week training session to be supervised by coaches from Arsenal Football Club. Two of the six players Sandra Owusu and Belinda Anane were part of the Black Maidens squad which represented Ghana at the just ended FIFA U-17 Women�s World Cup held in Costa Rica. The other four members representing Ghana in Kigali are Prince Donkor, Abanga Ibrahim, Hakim Mohammed and Godfried Nyarko. The Ghanaian contingent will be joined at the football clinic by their counterparts from Nigeria, Zambia, Uganda and the host country, Rwanda. The clinic will give the youngsters a chance to be tutored by UEFA and English FA licensed coaches from top English Premier League, Arsenal Football Club. This will be the third clinic as part of the ARS programme. The last one was held in Accra and featured Arsenal legend Ray Parlour. Tony Adams, arguably Arsenal greatest captain ever will be in attendance to inspire the players. Head of Corporate Communications at Airtel Ghana, Donald Gwira said Airtel is excited with the opportunity given the youngsters. "We have run ARS for 3 years and the 4th edition will come off this year starting in June. The continued organization of ARS goes to give credence to our commitment to help grow youth football and contribute to society through football", he said. Mr. Gwira further stated that the partnership with the Ministry of Education where every participant in ARS must be in school, Ministry of Youth and Sports thru the Ghana Football Association/National Juvenile Committee in growing youth football is bearing fruits as more and more players who go through the ARS are being selected to the national teams to play at the world stage. �We trust that these youngsters will apply the skills learnt from these soccer clinics to become bigger stars�. He added. ARS is the youth football initiative by Airtel targeted at the U - 17s. It culminates in an African championship competed for by 17 countries. This year's event will be held in Gabon.
