Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo, Greater Accra Regional Minister on Tuesday presented certificates of appreciation to some donors of the 2013 Greater Accra Regional Farmers day celebrations.
Nii Agbo said the Farmers day celebration recognises the contributions of farmers by giving them awards, which had always been supported by the donors.
He said increased food production and agriculture productivity would go a long way to overcome food insecurity, adding that through such support to farmers, incomes may be generated and turned into access to food and better nutrition.
He said the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) and the Department of Agriculture were much honoured to be benefiting from the hard work of donors each time the farmer�s day was celebrated, since their support had a major impact on the lives of farmers.
�I know how hard you have been working to ensure that our farmers, fishermen and processors are awarded for a hard work done, and I hope you know how much we appreciate your kind gestures,� he added.
Nii Agbo urged them to continue to support the celebrations and appealed to other corporate bodies to contribute towards this year�s regional farmer�s day celebration scheduled to take place on December 5.
Mr Emmanuel Sankah, Marketing Department, Polytex Industries Limited on behalf of the donors expressed appreciation to the RCC for recognising their little contributions towards the celebration.
He said they have been supporting the celebration over the years and this was the first time such recognition has been given to them, saying they least expected the certificates.
