Man Arrested For Allegedly Shooting Suspected Thief

The leader of the Agona West Neighbourhood Committee, Prince Opoku Manu, has been arrested after a 42-year-old suspected thief was shot dead by a member of the committee. Kojo Annan, who was shot in the waist, was rushed to the Swedru Government hospital but died while on admission. No guns According to the police, members of the watchdog committees are not expected to use guns in their operations. It was unclear whether the gun used to commit the crime was being carried by the leader of the watchdog committee since, according information gathered, he was the one who allegedly shot Annan. Wigs Annan was alleged to have broken into a shop containing women�s wigs and allegedly stole 43 pieces of the wigs. Members of the watchdog committee, who were on their usual patrols, spotted Annan running away from the scene with the stolen wigs and a member of the committee allegedly shot him. His body has since been deposited at the hospital�s morgue awaiting an autopsy. Son The eldest son of the deceased, Kojo Amoakoh, told the Daily Graphic that he had information that his father was lying on the street around the GB Olivant area and quickly proceeded to the scene. He stated that upon reaching there, he saw the father lying in a pool of blood. According to him, he went home to inform the family about the incident but upon his return, his father had been rushed to the Swedru hospital, where he died while receiving treatment. A police source said the leader of the committee, after the incident, informed the owner of the shop that was broken into that Annan broke into her shop and had been shot. The owner of the shop, Madam Mary Efua Abdullah, proceeded to the scene and a formal report was made to the police. Investigations are still going on.
