Thirty-one suspected criminals were arrested on Wednesday in the Ashaiman Municipality by the Tema Regional Police Command and the National Anti-Armed Robbery Squad of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Police Headquarters. The six-hour operation which also involved the Rapid Deployment Force and the Special Weapons and Tactics of the Tema Command, took place in certain suburbs of Ashaiman including New York, Atadeka, Saki, Market Square, as well as �Spider Toilet� and �I Shall Return� the two known havens for criminals. Four out of the 31 suspects were arrested for illegal possession of drugs, while the rest were apprehended for their involvement in other crimes under investigations. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Beatrice Zakpa Vib-Sanziri, Regional Police Commander, briefing the media on Thursday, gave the names of the suspects possessing the drugs as 20-year old Baba Abaa who was in possession of nine wrappers of Indian hemp. The others are; Mohammed Ayuba, a 19-year old welder with two wrappers, Nathenial Essilfie, 23-year old mechanic with 45 wrappers and Kwaku Eddie, 20-year old unemployed with 14 wrappers. DCOP Vib-Sanziri indicated that all the 31 suspected criminals are being held by the Regional Command pending interrogation, screening, profiling and other necessary action. She said in another development, the Ashaiman Divisional Command carried out an identification parade on Wednesday during which three of the suspected criminals were identified by victims of robbery attacks. The three identified were; Emmanuel Kofi Ntiamoah, Emmanuel Tetteh and Dela Danlad, all believed to be in their twenties. The Commander reiterated her outfit�s commitment to fighting crime in the Region and promised that �Police in Tema Region is leaving no stone unturned as far as flushing out criminals from the Metropolis is concerned�. She added that the Command has secured some tents from National Headquarters to be mounted at Gbetsile, New York and Asutuare Junction, which would have armed men placed on 24-hour duty to respond to crime within the vicinity as a temporary measure to solve security issues while the service work on opening more police stations in these areas. She therefore charged residents and the public to collaborate with the Command to rid the communities of such criminals as �policing in these contemporary times is a shared responsibility�.
