President Mahama To Meet ECOWAS Security Chiefs

President John Dramani Mahama would next week hold an anti-terrorist meeting in Accra, in his capacity as Chairman of Economic Community of West African states. Mr Ben Dotsei Malor, Head of Communications and Presidential Spokesperson who made this known in Accra on Friday, said the meeting, which would mainly be attended by security chiefs would focus on curbing the activities of Boko Haram in Nigeria. Neighbouring countries such as Chad and Cameroon that are out of the ECOWAS domain would also participate in the all-important meeting. Mr Malor, who announced this during media briefing at the Flagstaff House, Kanda, said the meeting was a sequel to President Mahama's visit to Abuja on May 8, to show solidarity to Nigeria. The meeting would also fashion out measures to contain and sustain peace and security in the sub- region that had over the years experienced some intermittent flashes and turbulence. The Presidential spokesperson said the National Economic Forum that is slated for next week May 13, would collate useful ideas from economic experts to build a more resilient economy. He said it would also provide an avenue for decision-makers to make key implementable actions to be taken for the betterment of the economy and to restore micro economic stability and unlock the potentials for economic development. Mr Malor appealed to well meaning Ghanaians to offer their input to the forum to ensure its success for the achievement of Ghana's development goals. He said as Ghana is moving towards achieving the status of a middle income country, there is the need to drift away from the perennial dependence on cocoa and gold and move on to some of the non-traditional commodities to serve as a buffer for the country. "The essence of the national economic forum is to draw unity, consensus and constructiveness among Ghanaians to find solutions to the economic challenges of our country" the spokesperson added.
