Three Charged For Murder

The Odorkor District Police have provisionally charged three fishermen with the offence of murder after they were accused of brutally assaulting their colleague and consequently pushing him into the Dansu River. The three- Eric Segafa, 23, a mason and fisherman, Daniel Segafa, 23, and Stephen Ahiako, 26, both fishermen allegedly attacked the deceased Lumor abbetey for stealing their fishing net. The deceased Lumor abbetey, 34, who was helpless when he was pushed into the river, died on the spot. His body was later discovered in the river with several marks by the police and some fishermen on May 5, 2014. The body has since been deposited at the police hospital morgue for autopsy. The suspects are now in police custody awaiting trial. Superintendent Abraham Acquaye, the Odorkor District Police Commander, told the paper that the incident occurred on May 5, 2014 around 7am. Police received information that the deceased Abbetey went missing after he was attacked on the river. A search was mounted for him with the help of the indigenes in the area. The deceased was later discovered dead in the river by the search party and when the body was inspected there were marks all over it. Based on information, the three suspects were apprehended and detained for prosecution. Meanwhile, information indicated that the three allegedly attacked the deceased after accusing him of stealing their fish and net on the river. Daniel Segafa, in his caution statement, said that they spotted the deceased Abbetey removing a net which they had used the previous night to trap some fish on the river. We questioned him, collected our net and left him on the river together with his son. Later, we heard that the deceased had drowned in the river, they noted. The suspects, however, denied accusations that they killed the deceased.
