The Founder of the e-Crime Bureau, Ghana, Mr Albert Antwi-Boasiako, has confirmed the government�s commitment to introduce a comprehensive National Cyber Security Strategy to arrest cybercrime in the country. In an interview with the Daily Graphic, Mr Antwi-Boasiako said the strategy would give guidelines to stakeholders, private agencies and government organisations to put in place measures to reduce cybercrime in the country. Cybercrime in Ghana Mr Antwi-Boasiako explained cybercrime as crime activities committed using the network, computers, mobile devices and electronic platform. According to him, the world is being controlled by technology. Our social lives and business are being influenced by information read online such as pornography and unnecessary information. Mr Antwi-Boasiako said hackers� intersection into electronic data, e-mail and business websites of the financial industry had resulted in the general cybercrime called �sakawa� and �419� in the country. That, he said, had affected most business sectors negatively, notably the financial service industries and the wider corporate world. �Basically, we are witnessing attacks on our personal computers through e-mail, account details adopted the fraudsters,� he observed. Commitment Mr Antwi-Boasiako said awareness creation campaign would be earmarked to sensitise individuals, private agencies and government organisation to protect their personal information using an anti-virus protection. He said the police were being trained under e-crime project to empower them to investigate and prosecute fraudsters in the country. He, therefore, entreated Ghanaians to be cyber conscious when operating with the internet and facilities to safeguard their information.
