Sakawaman Allegedly Kills 4Family Members Call For Justice

The township of Akyem Kukurantumi in the Eastern Region was thrown into a state of morning on April 18th this year, after an unregistered saloon vehicle knocked down six people, killing one on the spot. Three others, upon reaching the Hospital were said to have been pronounced dead while the other two inflicted with various degree of injuries are receiving medical attention. The vehicle, a Corolla CZ with an unregistered license number plate, DP 2014, was said to be speeding on a very short stretch causing the driver, 27-year-old Yaw Agyebi, who is believed to be a Sakawa Boy to lose control of the vehicle thereby resulting in the accident. The affected were just returning from Good Friday Service at the time when the accident occurred. Before the incident, one of the deceased, Elizabeth Abena Frimpongmaa, 51 and Afua Esther, 48, were petty traders. Others included Alfred Afrani whose 13th birthday fell on the day, and Adormu Christian, a 14-year-old JHS student. Eyewitness narrated to this reporter that the driver reported the accident to Tafo District police and presented a young man by name School Boy, a GPRTU staff as the one who was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident. According to them Agyebis action was to shield him from further trouble given that he had no license. However, the Tafo police personnel; through a tip off from eye witnesses rearrested Agyebi and only charged him for deceiving the police and later granted him bail. Meanwhile, the family head of one of the victims, Nana Atta Frempong, has called on the Eastern Regional Police Commander, The Regional Minister and regional State Attorney to set a committee of enquiry to look into the matter because they have no confidence in the behavior of Tafo Police. Abusuapanin Atta Frempong believes that Yaw Agyebi and his master, one Kyei, 23, who owns the accident car, may have used their sister for rituals.
