Government Taking Measures To Restructure Chieftaincy Institution

The Minister of Chieftaincy and Traditional Affairs, Dr Henry Seidu Daanaa, says government is taking measures to restructure the Chieftaincy institution to be one of the institutions that will support rural development agenda of the nation. He said the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning has released allowance of Paramount Chiefs for the past five months into their accounts and is also working on the first quarter of this year which will be paid very soon. The Sector Minister, Dr Daanaa announced this when he addressed separate meetings with Chiefs in the Lower and Upper Axim and Jomoro Traditional Councils in the Nzema East Municipality of the Western Region. The Vice President of the National House of Chief, Awulae Atibrikusu appealed to the Minister to critically look at the allowance of paramount chiefs in the Western Region. He commended the minister for his plans towards the Chieftaincy institutions in the country. He called on the Chiefs to mount a holistic crusade to fight against land and chieftaincy disputes in their area.
