Residents of Kade in the Kwaebibirem District in the Eastern Region yesterday embarked on a peaceful demonstration in protest against the deplorable roads in the area and the delay in the construction of the main lorry park.
The demonstrators wore red armbands, amid singing and chanting, and carried placards, some of which read: �We want our roads to be fixed�, �What have we done to deserve this?�, �Government, we are still waiting for you to fulfil your promise� and �Why the delay in completing the lorry park?�.
The demonstrators paraded through the streets of Kade and later presented a petition to the District Chief Executive, Mr Reginald Aboagye Osae.
In the petition, they appealed to the Kwaebibirem District Assembly to expedite action on the tarring of the lorry park which was creating a lot of inconvenience for travellers and motorists.
They said most people now found it difficult going to the town to engage in economic activities.
Two of the demonstrators who wanted to remain anonymous accused the DCE of insensitivity and, therefore, advised him to be more proactive.
They promised to embark on further demonstrations if nothing was done immediately to address their concerns.
When he received the petition, the DCE assured the demonstrators of plans to improve upon the road network in the area and promised them that the government would address their concerns.
The Kwaebibirem District Police Commander, Superintendent Stephen de-Laporte, commended the participants for being peaceful and orderly throughout the demonstration.
