CIM Chair Gives Thumps Up To Digital Marketing; But Says It Can Destroy Brands Fastest

Chairman of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) UK, Ghana Branch, Solomon Adu Atefoe, has charged marketers and government to resort to the use of digital marketing as the modern trend of promoting products and services to the world at less cost. Speaking at the 9th CIM Graduation Ceremony and Dinner held at the British Council on the theme The Digital Age, Opportunities and Challenges for Todays Marketer, he stressed the need for marketers to take advantage of the 28 million mobile phone users in the country to trade with them at a cheap cost without spending a lot of money on advertisement and promotions. Speaking to Peacefmonline.com in an interview, Mr. Solomon Adu Atefoe posited that the digital marketing poses both opportunities and challenges for the marketer, adding the digital marketing cuts cost in promoting products and services to targeted clients and at the same time can destroy companies when their brands are negatively portray in the social media. The benefit in digital marketing is that Ghana can brand itself in the various social media as we are poised to promote Ghana and made-in-Ghana goods in the country and in the world. Many people will get to hear about the activities of Ghana; our beaches, agriculture, tourism, our hospitality and how we brand ourselves in the various social media. Ghana can get a good a name in the world through the internet, website, twitter, Facebook and Linkedup..but the same media can easily tarnish your companys image at a fastest rate when your brand is misrepresented on the internet, he stated. He however urged marketers to cautiously take advantage of the digital marketing to reach a lot of clients at less cost as National Media Commission survey proves that one person uses more than a phone in the country. We are therefore cautioning todays marketers to be careful with the use of digital marketing tools as it poses a blessing in disguise. Whatever we say about our brand should be accurate as any wrong information about a brand can lead to the destruction of the company and if the information is accurate as well, people can equally hear about the brand within some seconds, he added.
