Police Arrest Fake Electrical Gadgets Sellers In Takoradi

A number of dealers in electrical gadgets at Takoradi Market Circle have been arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Takoradi Central Police Station in the Western Region for selling fake products. The use of imitated and counterfeit electrical gadgets and appliances is believed to be one of the causes of fire outbreaks at the market that have led to the loss of lives and property. The exercise was carried out at the instance of the management of Sollatek Electronic (Ghana) Limited, whose products had been imitated and sold to the unsuspecting public. The Marketing Manager of Sollatek, Mr Thomas Akogliya, who briefed the Daily Graphic about the operation in the metropolis, said the arrest of the suspects followed a survey conducted by the company with regard to the faking of its products, especially fridge and television guards. Mr Akogliya explained that the suspects sent samples of the companys products to China and Nigeria where they were faked, bought and sold to the public. According to him, a similar operation was carried out in April, this year at Okaishie in Accra where a sizeable number of counterfeit Sollatek products were confiscated and the suspects processed for court. He has advised clients, therefore, to be very careful when buying electrical appliances, especially Sollatek products. The marketing manager gave an assurance that his outfit would continue to fight the menace in the system to protect the public and free the markets from fires. He urged traders to buy from genuine and authorised agents of the company across the country in their own interest.
