Legon Police In Bribery Scandal? Terrorizes Family Over Shiashi Lands

Members of the Apan Tsewe Family in the Greater Accra Region have expressed disquiet over the manner in which three members of their family were arrested and bullied by some Police officers at the Legon Police station yesterday. According to an eye witness, the young men, namely, Anum Laryea, Mensah Addokwei and Mensah Laryea, were walking around their own parcel of land opposite the Action Chapel at Shiashi, when the police suddenly ambushed them at gun point. The victim said they earlier had information that somebody had gone to bribe the police to deal with them for contending the ownership of the land. Interestingly, the Legon Police officers who had no jurisdiction over the said land surrounded and dragged the boys into their Nissan Patrol Vehicle and drove them to the police station. When they got to the police station, they threw them into the cells without any interrogations. Sources close to the Police, however hinted that the intention was to detain the boys until Tuesday, because Monday has been declared a public holiday. Meanwhile, other members of the Apam Tsewe family in an interview said they earlier reported the matter to the Airport Police which paved way for investigations and did not understand why officers from other jurisdictions would involve themselves. We have made an official complain at the Airport Police Station that someone was trespassing on our land, when we even contacted the person he said he had links at the Legon Police Station and that he was going to teach us a lesson they stated. When this reporter visited the Legon Police Command for clarifications on the issue, the area commander, as at 4pm was said to have closed from work. Meanwhile, the arrested boys pointed themselves out to this reporter during role call as the victims who had been arrested, but the police officer insisted they kept quite. The Charge Officer warned the reporter to leave the premises else he would be dealt with severely.
