Police Save Two Nigerian Tricksters From Lynching

A timely intervention by a Police Patrol Team last Saturday afternoon saved two Nigerian nationals from being lynched by a mob at Asafo, a suburb of Kumasi, after they attempted to defraud an attendant of a hardware store of GH10,000. The angry mob pounced on the suspects and subjected them to severe beatings after an alarm was raised about their attempt to use 419 means to collect GH10,000 from the store attendant. Luck, however, was on the side of the three suspects, as one of them took to his heels, after a Police Patrol team arrived at the scene and saved them from being lynched. The incident occurred at 1:40 pm at a shop located opposite the Asafo branch of the Social Security National Insurance Trust (SSNIT). Narrating the incident to The Chronicle, the shop attendant said earlier in the morning, one of the suspects came to the shop and introduced himself as a Nigerian national who was into Information Technology (IT) business. He said the suspect told him that he needed to buy some of the goods they were selling, pointing to a Flat Screen LG Television set. The attendant said he priced the product at GH1,100 but the suspect said he could afford GH700 and told him he would be back in the afternoon for it. He said the suspect then asked him to give him GH10,000 for some transactions, promising to pay when he arrives later in the afternoon, but the attendant feigned interest and told the suspect to come later because he had not made enough sales in the morning. Determining to make the GH10,000 fortune, the suspect came back in the afternoon, this time around with another colleague, whilst the third suspect waited across the road, closely watching events. The two suspects suddenly pulled some offensive weapons from their pockets and instructed him to bring the money. The attendant continued that unknown to the suspects, he had informed some of his colleagues about the matter, so after sensing danger, they pounced on the Nigerian nationals and started interrogating them. The crowd suddenly multiplied and subsequently subjected them to beatings, inflicting several wounds on them, before the police arrived at the scene to contain the situation.
