Several Injured In Gushegu

Several were reported injured in a �free-for-all fight� in Yinyamba in the Gushegu District of the Northern region. The fight was between two Kokomba farming communities, Yiyamba and Bariba, over a parcel of land. Dozens of homes were also set on fire in the renewed clash. Gushegu Government Hospital Administrator, Emmanuel Donkoh, confirmed to Accra basedJoy fma while ago that two people are being treated after sustaining gunshot wounds. �For now they are two. One is in the OPD; the other is in the theatre,� he stated. Residents in nearby communities said they could hear gunshots and thick smoke billow from a distance. A sub-Chief in a nearby town, Naa David Wunzoya, said the conflict began around 4:00 AM yesterday. �They have started burning Yiyamba,� he said. He said standing from a distance on top of a hill; he could see houses going up in smoke. He further confirmed residents of the two communities have been arguing over a piece of land. Gushegu is a small town in the Northern region and is the capital of Gushegu district. The town has been a harbinger of ethnic conflict with series of curfews announced at different periods. District Chief Executive (DCE) of Gushegu, Alhaji Fuseini, said they had information about the clashes this morning and deployed police personnel to the area. He said residents were fighting over a new parcel of land. That was after two parcels of land which triggered an initial conflict were confiscated from them. According to him, residents of the two communities assured government and security personnel they were going to resolve their grievances amicably only to resort to guns few days after. He said the police are yet to make any arrest even though investigations have begun.
