Robbers Raid Community: Steal 20 Goats And Sheep

A DARING robbery gang has raided Atwemamena, a community near Akyem Asafo in the East Akyem Municipality of the Eastern region and stolen as many as 20 goats and sheep. The robbers also killed and left a number of rams in their pen. The incident occurred at dawn when residents of the community were fast asleep. It is not clear how the robbers managed to steal the goats without bleating to alert the community. George Ansah, an opinion leader in the community explained to the Daily Heritage that residents of the community woke up on Saturday morning only to discover that the sheep and goats have been stolen by the robbers from their pen. He explained that, the robbers broke into the pen of the sheep and goats and took them into a waiting vehicle and absconded. He said four persons had their sheep and goats stolen by the robbers. Mr. Ansah said a complaint is yet to be lodged at the Akyem Asafo police station. He said the community has never recorded any theft of this nature. He said they suspect that the robbers may come from either Akyem Asafo or Anyinasin and its environs. A resident whose goats were stolen told the paper that, he will invoke a curse on the robbers and anyone who handles or eats the meat of the goat. It is believed that the robbers will later slaughter and sell the meat to chop bar operators. The community is, therefore, calling on chop bar operators to be vigilant and refrain from buying meat from unknown sources. Some residents of the community who spoke to the paper said even though the community has been connected to the national electricity grid this year, it has no street lights despite several appeals to the Member of Parliament for the Area, Atta Akyea and the Municipal Chief Executive of East Akyem , Simon Peter Asirifi. They said the community is in total darkness and is creating a breeding ground for criminalities in the area.
