A 31-year-old policeman stationed at the Dansoman Police Station, Accra, who was arrested for allegedly robbing a taxi driver of his GH�2,170 at gunpoint near the Awudome cemetery, not too far from the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra, has been arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court.
General Lance Corporal Daniel Mensah was given away when his wallet dropped as he was actively searching the victim inside the vehicle.
He had his Procredit ATM Card, Standard Chartered Visa Card in the wallet.
The policeman was charged with conspiracy to commit crime and robbery in a court, presided over by Francis Obiri but has denied any wrongdoing.
He was remanded by the court, which adjourned the case to June 9, 2014.
The two accomplices of the accused person are currently at large.
Prosecuting DSP Peter Sakyi said the complainant is George Banahene, a taxi driver while the accused person is a police officer stationed at Dansoman.
He said on May 23, 2014, the accused person and his two accomplices hired the services of the driver at Radio Gold area, and asked him to head for TV Africa.
According to him, midway through the journey, the accused person and his accomplices attacked the taxi driver and took the said amount from him and bolted.
In addition, he said the wallet of the police officer dropped in the process.
Explaining further, DSP Peter Sakyi said the taxi driver saw the Identity cards of the accused person and other cards and sent them to Peace FM, an Accra-based radio station for announcement before reporting the matter to the police.
He stated that the accused person was arrested at Dansoman but he denied the charges in his caution statement.
