Politics Must Not Be Based On Insults Asiedu Nketia

General Secretary of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has underscored the need for clean and issue-based politics ahead of the 2016 general elections. He said using insults as a tool to rundown a political opponent brings Ghanas democratic credential into disrepute. General Mosquito as he is popularly called made the comment on Asempa FMs Ekosii Sen programme Friday, while discussing the seeming division in the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP). Ahead of the partys presidential primaries in December, some enthusiastic supporters of flagbearer aspirants notably Nana Akufo-Addo and Alan Kyerematen in their bid to market their candidates have rained insults on their opponents. This way of politicking has been condemned by many with the NPP Chairman, Paul Afoko threatening to sanction any member found culpable. Contributing to the discussion on Ekosii Sen, Asiedu Nketia bemoaned what he described as negative politics being adopted by political parties to malign their opponents. He feared the status quo, if not condemned by all political parties, could jeopardize Ghana's democratic credentials. According to General Mosquito, the days where more premium was placed on tongue-lashing is long gone, thus the National Executives of the NPP must crack the whip and bring sanity into the party. The NDC scribe could not fathom why a party which professes to be democratic could allow some of its members descend into the gutters over power. We need a vibrant opposition to compete with so the NPP must put its acts together before the 2016 general elections he added. Asiedu Nketia said going forward, politics in the country will be based on issues rather than insults to enable the electorates make an informed choice.
