The Denkyembour District Assembly is taking steps to increase its internally-generated funds, in view of the untimely release of its share of the District Assembly�s CommonFund (DACF), which has raised a lot of challenges for the Assembly.
Addressing a general meeting of the Assembly, the District Chief Executive, Mr Kwaku Ofori-Abrokwa, said the Assembly�s executive committee had recommended measures to increase its revenue base, including the erection of barriers at entering and exit points of the district, to check revenue evasion, and public education on the need to pay rate and fees.
Others include the embossment of the Assembly�s stickers on commercial vehicles , the allocation of funds for the evaluation of properties in the district, and the Finance and Administration Committee of the Assembly to be tasked to identify other potential sources of revenue.
He expressed optimism that with those measures seriously implemented, the needed revenue would be generated to avoid �dependence on the DACF which is bedeviled with a lot of deductions.�
Mr. Ofori�Abrokwa announced that the DACF formula for 2014 fiscal year had been approved by Parliament, and the district's share of the fund is GhC2, 772,860.
Touching on Education, Mr Ofori-Abrokwa said students at the basic level, performed badly in last year's Basic Education Certificate Examinations.
He announced that schools that did not perform well have been adopted by offices at the District Directorate of Education for close supervision and �technical back-stopping,� and urged assembly members to assist those officers to achieve improvement in performance.
On Health, he said three Community Heath Planning and Service Compounds(CHPS), had been upgraded to health centre status, and named them as those at Bamenase, Sakyikrom and Akwatia.
