Two Cops On Trial For Narcotics

An Accra circuit court on Wednesday remanded General Lance Corporal Haruna Nantogma and Detective Lance Corporal Osami Teye Felix, both policemen into police custody for conspiracy to commit crime to wit supply of narcotic drugs and use of narcotic drug. The accused persons, who pleaded not guilty, would re-appear on June 18. Deputy Superintendent of Police Abraham Annor told the court presided over by Mr Francis Obiri that the accused persons are policemen, where the first accused was stationed at the Madina Division and the second accused was at East Legon Police station. He said on May 30,this year, the Unit received a court order against the accused persons and on June 2, the accused persons were arrested for interrogation and questioning. The prosecution said during investigations, it came out that the two met on various occasions at the Madina Police Station, Fiesta Royal Hotel, Lapaz and Accra Shopping Mall. DSP Annor said it was alleged that both planned, conspired together and arrested one ken Amuzu with a total of forty-nine wraps of powdery substance and four rocky substances suspected to be cocaine. He said out of the total number seized from Ken, the two policemen kept ten wraps of the powdery substance and one of the rocky substance for sale. �In the course of investigations, the East Legon Police retrieved a total of 10 wraps of powdery substance and a rocky substance leaving six powdery substances, which was kept by Felix,� he added.
