After Gory Accident MTTD Says Motorway Is Clear

The Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service is insisting that the Tema Motorway has been cleared and traffic is moving smoothly. This follows an accident that occurred in the early hours of Thursdayon the Tema-Accra motorway after heavy rains. Ambulance and rescue workers were unable to access the scene of the crash because people driving along the shoulders of the road have blocked all access routes. The police were at the scene directing traffic in a bid to free the blocked road but not much success has been achieved. The number of casualties is still not known. Meanwhile, Director of Education and Research at the MTTD, DSP Alexander Obeng said the gory accident which occurred on Wednesday night on the motorway was quickly attended to by security personnel and the Ghana National Fire Service and so for us, weve been on our feet throughout the night till this morning. Motorists who use the Tema Motorway called into the Accra-based Citi FMs Breakfast Show to complain about the heavy vehicular traffic on the motorway due to the accident. They appealed to the Police to come salvage the situation. But Mr. Obeng insisted that the road has been cleared and the traffic which compounded on the road is moving. The road was cleared and the two lanes can now be used by motorists who are Accra bound, he said. According to him, the accident involving the fuel tanker was so hazardous because if you have petrol spilling, you have all manner of road users on the road and obviously it would have led to fire and all manner of accidents. DSP Obeng added that the security services planned to shut down the road use to the severity of the accident but through their hard work throughout the night, they were able to make the road accessible to motorists. But some motorists say they are still stuck in traffic on the motorway but the situation is improving.
