Recycling Waste; Major Priority Deserving Investment From Central Govt

A Policy Analyst with the People's National Convention (PNC), Atik Mohammed, has called on the Ministry of Science, Environment and Innovation to adopt new strategies to make waste materials useful to the nation. Speaking on Peace FM's on Kokrokoo, Atik Mohammed urged the Ministry to refine waste to benefit Ghanaians. According to him, in the wake of Ghana's economic crisis, it would be prudent if the nation is rid of all filth, but the filth should be recycled to generate electricity to augment the current supply by the energy providers. To him, this will help resolve the energy crisis confronting Ghanaians. He explained that in other countries, refuse undergoes recycling and is used to boost the progress of these economies. Talking to host Kwami Sefa Kayi, he asked the Ministry and the Government of Ghana to recycle refuse being collected by waste management companies in the country, saying it should be a major priority deserving of investment from the Central GovernmentThe sanitation industry now has grown which means there should be the introduction and the acceptance of more technologies which can help Ghanas economy. He also appealed to the government to defray its arrears to the waste management companies in order to speed up the collection of refuse from communities.
