Operators In Culinary Sector Urged To Be Innovative

The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Ms Dzifa Gomashie, has challenged practitioners in the culinary sector to show innovation and creativity in their work so as to make local dishes attractive to the tourists who visit the country. She entreated the practitioners to learn to serve with love, respect and above all add value to yourself and stay different in whatever you are engaged in. Ms Gomashie was addressing the 31st graduating class of the EKGS Culinary Institute in Accra. The event, which coincided with the 15th anniversary of the institute, was on the theme: 15 Years of EKGS Culinary Institute: Prospects and challenges. Culinary terrain According to Ms Gomashie, when business grows, Ghana will benefit. The culinary terrain has changed and you must also change your attitude. Look for creative ways to develop our local food. She cautioned the graduates to consider how to decorate cakes without necessarily using much sugar. The Director of EKGS Culinary Institute, Mrs Efua Goode-Obeng Kyei, advised practitioners in the industry to be cautious of the infiltration of fake accessories and equipment on the market. She explained that the use of fake and counterfeit tools would result in the production of sub-standard products, resulting in health and image complications. 15th Milestone Mrs Goode-Obeng Kyei thanked God for the 15th milestone of the institute but admitted it had not been easy. She attributed the institutes achievements to Gods guidance and the desire to make an impact on the society and young people who attended EKGS for training. Mrs Goode-Obeng Kyei said the institute was doing its best to bridge the gap between Africa and the West in terms of sugar art. She said, we (EKGS) intend to do this by diversifying and upgrading our mainstream courses by bringing unique ideas and designs that will enhance the creativity of the students. The EKGS director advised the students to always go by the principles and ethics of the profession, be truthful in their dealings and aim at the highest standards of practice for them to stand out from the rest.
