We Can Only Sponsor A Few Supporters To Brazil Afriyie Ankrah

The Minister for youth and sports, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah has attributed governments inability to transport as many Ghanaians as possible to Brazil to support the Black Stars to the unavailability of funds. About 500 hundred Ghanaian supporters are expected to throng the various stadia in Brazil when the Black Stars open their campaign against the United States of America. Ghana have been paired in Group G alongside Germany, Brazil and Portugal and will play their first game against the United States of America on Monday, June 16. Government of Ghana has always paid for supporters to travel to World Cup venues to support the Black Stars and the reports about the high cost of traveling to Brazil, many are wondering if government will be sending as many supporters to support the stars this time round. However in an interview with Citi News, Mr. Ankrah revealed that government does not have enough money to sponsor as many fans like it did in the past. People are used to Germany where 2000 people went, and South Africa where over 3000 people went. So naturally there is expectation that in Brazil expecially those who have been going that the supporters will go. That is where the challenge is because the cost is so high that we cant just take as many people as possible, he said. He further added that I wish we could get like some 10 aircrafts but that is not possible. It is our advantage to carry as many Ghanaian there but it comes at a huge cost. The World Cup kicks of on Friday at exactly 20:00 GMT where Brazil will take on Croatia in the opening game.
