West Akim MCE Advocates Sense Of Patriotism In Ghanaians

Mr George Mensah Akpalu, West Akim Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), says the country is looking up to the present generation to uphold and defend the glowing image of the country. He said Ghanaians should also see themselves foremost as patriots by acquiring a sense of nationalism. The MCE made this known in an interview with Ghana News Agency at Asamankese in the Eastern Region. He said the proposed policies of the assembly, including its educational, economic, structural, sanitary and health policies, would have great impact in the municipality and its environ. He said 108 students took part in the 2013 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), with 17 schools scoring zero as against eight schools in 2012 and seven in 2011. By all standards, there is a general decline in performance, except for the number of schools and candidates that participated in the examination, he stated. To reverse the poor trend the assembly will visit junior high schools to ensure effective teaching and learning. Mr Akpalu said: The assembly expects the Municipal Education Directorate to intensify their monitoring and supervision process to ensure punctuality of teachers and pupils. He said the quest for improved access and high quality education, to churn out disciplined and honest children needed in the tertiary level is paramount, and that the assembly is doing everything possible to live up to expectation. The MCE used the occasion to advice students to endeavour to obey simple rules and regulations governing the conduct of examinations, as well as refrain from indulging in any form of malpractices which would lead to the cancellation of their results.
