Ghanaian Journalists Schooled On Investigative Journalism

More than fifty Ghanaian Journalists have been schooled on techniques in investigative journalism by the Africa Media Initiative, a media training consortium. The two day workshop which was on the theme, "Cross examination for investigative journalists" was held at the iSpace Foundation centre at Osu, Accra. The Journalists were taken through two separate modules with the first one comprising of cross-examination under which they studied the cycle of questioning a witness, developing story theory, the structure argument among others. Under the second module, participants studied strategizing, preparation of questions, use of the Reid technique. The trainer, Mr Heinrich Bohmke, advised the participants to put the skills and knowledge acquired into proper use to the benefit of Ghana and the African continent at large. Addressing participants, Ace Ghanaian investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas, encouraged up and coming journalists who have interest in investigative journalism to always establish a prima facie case before embarking on any investigation since it is the prerequisite for investigative journalism. He advised journalists to build a very credible source or network in the arena of sourcing for information to embark on investigative story items and also be able to view society differently from the ordinary. Mr Anas urged journalists to embrace the investigative aspect of the profession and also go undercover to delve deep into matters worth investigating.
