Washing Bay Attendant Arrested For Car Theft

A Tema-based washing bay attendant has been arrested for attempting to sell a clients unregistered Toyota Corolla. Michael Kuranchie, 24, who used to work as a galamsey operator at Obuasi, was grabbed in the area where he had gone to sell the stolen car to a prospective buyer. Chief Superintendent Victor Amedeker, the Community 1 Police Commander, said on April 30 this year at about 7.30am, Godwin Korley, the owner of the stolen vehicle with trade number plate DV1532 A, sent it to the Jordan Washing Bay near Unilever Ghana in the Tema Industrial Area for washing. Korley left the car with the key in the ignition with Kuranchie, who was the one assigned to wash the car. Superintendent Amedeker said when Korley returned in the evening to take his car, he had the shock of his life when he learned that Kuranchie had fled with the vehicle. He said, Korley reported the matter to the police, who during investigation gathered that Kuranchie had gone to sell the car at Obuasi. He said a search was mounted and 24-year-old Kuranchie was arrested.
