MP Urges Government To Fix Collapsed Dome Bridge

Ms Sarah Adwoa Safo, Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, has urged government to immediately re-build the bridge linking Dome to Kwabenya, to ease the frustration of motorists and residents. Following last weeks heavy downpour, the decrepit bridge collapsed and was washed, cutting off the Dome township from the adjoining suburbs, including Kwabenya, Atomic and Ashongman. Ms Safo who inspected the collapsed bridge with some journalists, pleaded with the Department of Urban Roads (DUR), to immediately come to the aid of her constituents, by awarding the contract through sole-sourcing. "Government must quickly activate the sole sourcing procedure, and award the contract to quickly put back the bridge to ease the burden on motorists and residents who have to spend more time on alternative routes to get to their destinations," said the legislator. She pushed for the DUR to act swiftly to bring an end to the challenges that have arisen in the area, as a result of the collapsed bridge. Ms Safo also inspected the dusty alternative road that was making residents along the route feel at ease. She said the temporal shutdown of the road is likely to impact negatively on economic activities, particularly the Dome market, which serves residents in Ashongman Estates, Kwabenya, Haatso and Taifa. The law-maker also notified Parliament on the plight of her constituents, requesting governments immediate assistance.
