Mr Isaac Adjei-Mensah, Deputy Minister of Roads and Highways on Friday gave an onomatopoeic sound to describe the movement of vehicles on some roads which were receiving Government attention. Some Members of Parliament (MPs) threw banter at him to define the sound �gbrr� which he used as he explained Government intervention on questions on some roads in the Ashanti, Brong Ahafo and Volta Regions. Mr Benito Owusu-Bio (NPP MP -Atwima Nwabiagya) had wanted to know from the sector Minister, who the Deputy Minister stood in for, when speed ramps would be constructed on the Abuakwa-Mfensi stretch of the Kumasi-Sunyani Highway, to prevent frequent pedestrian knockdowns. Mr Adjei�Mensah in response said Abuakwa-Mfensi is on the Kumasi-Sunyani Road in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of the Ashanti Region, and accident reports on the entire road had revealed frequent pedestrian knockdown in the towns. According to the Deputy Minister, a careful analysis of the reports had identified speeding and reckless driving as the major factors of the knockdowns. While describing the reckless movement of the vehicles, the Deputy Minister used the word �gbrrr�, but added that following further studies on the road, sets of rumble strips had been constructed in Mfensi town this year. Mr Owusu Bio, on point of order, prayed Mr Joe Ghartey, Second Deputy Speaker, who sat in the chair, for an explanation, but the Speaker disallowed the question, amidst laughter from Members of the House. The Deputy Minister then informed the House that additional speed tables would be added and continued to Pokukrom and Potrikrom under the Ministry�s progamme this year, and that, the contractor was scheduled to move to site before the end of July 2014. On the question asked by Mr Kwame Governs Agbodza, (NDC MP - Adaklu), on when the road between Adaklu Waya and Ho would be constructed, the Deputy Minister said completion of the project had been delayed by excessive rainfall in the project area and difficulties in acquiring borrow pits. �The completion date of the project has been reviewed up to 31st December 2014, and the contractors have been cautioned to ensure that works are completed before schedule,� Mr Adjei-Mensah said.
