Ashanti Region Brings Down The Zonal Games Of Airtel Rising Stars Competition

Airtel Rising Stars zonal competitions, the platform for Colts (juvenile) footballers to show case their skills and reach for greater heights, have come to an end in �Oseikrom� - Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi. Four boys and two girls� teams representing Ashanti and Brong Ahafo Regions over a two day period competed for honours. Ashanti Region proved too strong for Brong Ahafo in both the boy�s and girl�s finals competition. Brong Ahafo Team B won the silver medal after losing 2-0 to Ashanti Team A. Brong Ahafo Team A came third with Ashanti Team B finishing bottom of the pile in the male categories. In his opening address to the players, Head of Corporate Communications & CSR of Airtel Ghana Donald Gwira cautioned the players to show good sportsmanship in the field of play as they battle for honours. He stressed the importance of discipline with the right attitude as being the key virtues to be displayed if one wanted to reach their full potential. He further stated that a new initiative introduced this year allowed teams who did not win the zonal competition not to despair as there was the possibility of individuals to be selected as part of the team to represent the zone in the national finals to be played in Sunyani, Brong Ahafo Region in a couple of weeks� time. �We are looking for the best players to form the team and not necessarily the best teams to represent the zone he added. Veteran coach E.K. Afranie who is a member of the technical team reiterated the importance of attitude and discipline. �Talent constitutes only 20 per cent whilst attitude and discipline 80 per cent of a players abilities.� The zonal business manager for Ashanti South for Airtel Ghana, Walter Tabi Debrah, said Airtel Rising Stars is all about togetherness, determination and team spirit. He advised the players selected, to be ambassadors of the zone as they prepare for the national finals to be played in Sunyani.
