Over 12-Hour Rain Halts Businesses

THE NATIONS capital, Accra has flooded again as a result of over ten hours of incessant rains which started early Wednesday morning and displaced many, bringing various businesses in the capital to a halt. Visits by the DAILY HERITAGE to some affected parts in Accra revealed that many more areas are getting flooded by the day any time it rains. The paper observed that a good number of roads had been destroyed by the torrential rains creating gaping potholes all over. At the Mallam Junction and Total Filling station which are already flood prone areas, the situation was worrying as the whole place was flooded, while workers were seen finding themselves a place to hide because there was no fuel at the station. The situation was no different at the Mallam market; some parts of the market were heavily flooded which made it difficult for commuters to walk through; market women were seen serving their customers in the rain and at the mercy of heaps of rubbish which had surrounded them. Kaneshie was also not left out during the downpour as the major streets were seen flooded making it difficult for passengers to navigate their way through to board vehicles to their various destinations. The paper also spotted some people who were being carried to cross to other side of the road because the roads were all flooded. It was an eye-sore at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle where virtually all corners of the roads had been blocked by the floods. Movement had become very difficult and as a result some young men were stationed right in the middle of the flood helping people to cross at a fee. Vehicles were seen parked along the way, with three others damaged as a result of the heavy rains and were being towed by a towing vehicle causing heavy traffic on the road.
