AFAG, Behind The Fake Letter Saying Prez Mahama Has Resigned?

The government was at the beginning of this week drawn to a spurious letter on the social media that portrayed President John Dramani Mahama as having tendered in his resignation from the office of President of the Republic of Ghana. The letter which forged the signature of the President, according to a statement signed by the Deputy Minister of Information and Media Relations, Mr. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, was a total fabrication and the product of criminal machinations by faceless elements with a view to sowing seeds of panic, anxiety and chaos within the Ghanaian society. Mr. Kwakye Ofosu said in view of the gravity of the matter especially the clear case of forgery of the Presidents signature in this matter, government has formally requested the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service (GPS) to conduct thorough investigations into the matter and bring to book the masterminds behind this reprehensible act. Interestingly just a few days after issuing the disclaimer and urging the CID to start investigations into the criminal matter, the Alliance for Accountable Governance, a pro New Patriotic Party (NPP) pressure group has come out o demand the resignation of the President from office. According to the pressure group in a statement issued in Accra on Wednesday, it has given the President a three month ultimatum to resign from his post or it would petition Parliament to evoke Article 69(ii) of the Constitution to impeach him. Many have however raised eyebrow over how the demand by the AFAG, which especially comes immediately after government has come out to deny the faked resignation letter by the President. Mr. Kofi Nyame, a resident of Accra told this paper in an interview that, officials of CID should start their investigations from the AFAG group s, it is strange that, the content of the fake resignation letter by the President is having no difference from the statement issued by the pressure group.
