Govts Decision To Purchase Sanitary Pads For School Girls Is In Order, But - Bernard Mornah

General Secretary for the Peoples National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah, has lauded governments decision to purchase sanitary pads for school girls in the country. Mr. Mornah is optimistic policy will improve the attendance of girls in school which will in turn have a positive impact on Ghana's educational system. According to him, it will cut down the numbers of female school dropouts in the nation. He noted that the inability of female students, particularly in rural areas, to access sanitary pads when they menstruate is a major problem affecting the education sector. Contributing to a panel discussion programme on Peace FMs "Kokrokoo" Morning Show, he said some introvert girls stay out of school when their menstrual cycle sets in, adding that this decelerates their educational progress and also deprives them of their right to remain in the classroom. In view of this, he believed the distribution of free sanitary pads will help curtail the problem. He however decried the decision by government to use a loan facility from the World Bank to undertake the project. To him, there could be a better way for the distribution to be done without necessarily using the World Bank loan to facilitate it.
