Bimbilla Regent Installed

The Family of murdered chief of the Bimbilla Traditional Area, over the weekend, installed an administrator of the SOS villages under the stool name Nyelinbogu-Lana Dasana Abdulai Yakubu, as the regent of the area. The installation, which took place under heavy security with over 100 armed police and military guards at the Palace in Bimbilla, attracted bigwigs of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) including some national officers of the party. The regent, known in private life as Dasana Abdulai Yakubu, was taken through various rituals before finally being announced to the congregation that converged on the Palace as the new regent, to temporarily hold the fort after the demise of the chief. His duty, according to kingmakers, is to perform the funeral of his late father and also arbitrate on cases in the area, pending the enskinment of a substantive Bimbilla Chief. Dasana Salifu Wumbei, the family spokesperson, disclosed that the reign of the new regent could extend for a little over a year depending on when he is able to, in consultation with the council of elders, perform the assigned tasks. Naa Andani Dassana Abdulai II, Paramount Chief of the Bimbilla Traditional Area, and five of his subjects, were murdered by some unidentified gunmen at his palace late last month. Abdul Mumin Alhassan, an aide to the murdered chief, Chichagi Gbanlana Issah Ziblimand, a final year student of the Islamic University College, as well as Alhassan Tanko, were all killed during a raid at the palace. Dasana Salifu Wumbei disclosed that the gun-wielding cops arrived at the house in the company of a certain Issah Buga moments after the police on guard duties had left the palace. The palace maidens, according to Wumbei, without hesitation, directed them to the chief who had concluded his evening Islamic prayers, and was relaxing at his lobby, reciting verses of the Holy Quran. Moments later, gunshots were heard from where the chief was seated and indiscriminate shooting ensued, resulting in the death of Abdul Mumin Alhassan and Issah Ziblim, both aides of the murdered chief. All the victims, including the chief, have since been buried. District Police Chief Removed DAILY GUIDE can confirm that the District Police Commander who was picked up by National Security operatives in the heat of the incident, would no longer serve in the area, as a new officer has been assigned there by the police administration. The embattled Police Chief and the DCE Alhaji Mohamed Ibn Abass have both been granted inquiry bail and are required to periodically report to the security agencies until they are cleared of alleged culpability in the incident. Northern Regional Minister and Chairman of the Regional Security Committee (REGSEC) Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna has made stunning disclosures that he is under pressure to release suspects arrested in connection with the incident. According to him, he is unfazed by such pressures and insists that the law must take its course and anyone found to have a hand in the unprovoked attack on the chief and his elders resulting in their deaths be dealt with accordingly. He stated that it is a purely criminal matter and those trying to link it to a chieftaincy conflict are only tickling themselves as there are no such indicators to point to the fact that there are clashes resulting in the needless deaths.
