Female Journalists Escape Death @ NPP Headquarters

Some Sympathizers of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) displayed their level of anger at two female reporters of the DAILY HERITAGE who were assigned to cover the filing of nominations at the partys headquarters in Accra yesterday. But, for divine intervention, the female reporters would have been lynched by the apparently intolerant supporters of the party. The two journalists, Dorcas Abedu-Kennedy and Susana Tagoe, who were at the party headquarters to cover the last day of filing of nomination forms for the upcoming flagbearer race, were unexpectedly asked to leave the premises of the party or face beating to death. The crime of the reporters was that they were dropped at the party headquarters by the DAILY HERITAGES official Mahindra Pick-up which the party faithful believed was a secret spacecraft that popped from the skies to spy on the activities of the party. Immediately we alighted from the car, some women at the party office started shouting that we are enemies who were there to spy on the party. To carry out their uncultured hooliganism against the innocent press ladies, the manic supporters began shouting on top of their voices saying those ladies are spies. This attracted some heavily built men who started questioning us about our motive for coming there and despite showing our staff ID, the well-built men insisted we were spies and threatened to beat us if we did not leave there. Fearing for our lives since we are ladies, we took to our heels just to avoid the wrath of any of the aggrieved party faithful. It was a terrifying moment because as fresh reporters, this was our first experience with such things and our hearts were beating so fast that we had to immediately leave there and were unable to report on the filing of the nomination forms by the aspirants.
