Former General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Lawyer Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, also known as Sir John, after a long break from politics has broken his silence, saying speculations that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, twice standard bearer of the party might cede his position on the grounds of sickness to his two-time running mate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, should he (Nana Addo) win the flagbearer contest of the NPP is a �vicious lie� from �desperate minds�. According to grapevine reports, Akufo-Addo was not too well enough to lead the party into the crucial 2016 general elections, prompting an immediate and swift response from the UK branch of the party. It (UK branch) has described the rumour as a �vicious lie.� In a telephone interview with Kwame Nkrumah �Tikese�, host of Okay Fm�s �Adeakye Abea�, the immediate past General Secretary described the rumour as not only wicked, but a �vicious campaign aimed at marring the third term bid of Nana Akufo-Addo,� adding that it was coming from �desperate minds� within his party to use lies as the only means to contest him in the Presidential Primaries. �There are some NPP members who think that if Akufo-Addo does not fall sick, they cannot win power internally and so they are behind the rumor that Nana Addo is sick but trust me, Nana Akufo-Addo is as fit as a fiddle and strong enough for every task in the country�..no Presidential hopeful in NPP can beat him in the Primaries. Ghanaians want him and they are calling him to come and save them from the current predicament the NDC government has subjected them to and so whatever anybody says will not materialized. What those in the party are doing against Nana Addo will not affect him alone but the entire party in the future��No Presidential hopeful aside Nana Addo came out to offer suggestions to end the bickering because they were enjoying the moment of heat in the party,� he slammed. He stressed that those trying hard to attribute sickness to Nana Akufo-Addo are wasting time as every human being is prone to sickness at any time including even Presidents and doctors. �Sickness is not something to be ashamed of but the fact remains that he is not sick but very strong��.it must be established that it is Ghanaians who are calling for Nana Akufo-Addo and he will stand for them. For me, I am looking at the percentage of votes Nana Addo will poll in the Primaries and not whether he will win or not�all the Presidential hopefuls are aware that Nana Akufo Addo is taller and bigger than them��he is taking it cool and he won�t need to campaign because Ghanaians are fed up and have seen the worst governance under President Mahama,� he added.
