Asare Arye, 26, was on Tuesday arraigned at an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly defiling a 12-year-old girl. Asare, who pleaded not guilty, was remanded to reappear on August 12. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Adiza Suleman said Mabel Atigah, mother of the victim who is a class five pupil of Alhaji Government School and lives with the accused person at Ofankor. She said on June 28, at about 2200 hours, the accused sent the victim to buy him water from a nearby house. He followed her up and lured her into an uncompleted building where he fondled with her breast. The prosecution said the victim was spotted by her mother on her way back home and when he questioned her mother she told her she was lured there by Asare who fondled with her breast and asked her to go and have her bath and come back. ASP Suleman said the victim went on to tell her mother that the accused person forcibly had sex with her the previous day in the same uncompleted building and threatened to beat her up if she should inform her mother about it.
