Trader Remanded For Defiling 13 -Year- Old Girl

An Accra Circuit Court on Tuesday remanded one Joseph Kofi Kaba, Trader for defiling a 13- year- old girl at Odorkor in Accra. Joseph, pleaded not guilty to the charge but was remanded by the court presided over by Sedinam Agbemeva to reappear on August 8. Prosecuting, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Adiza Suleman told the court that the complainant is Phyllis Gbekye, a hairdresser and mother of the victim, while the accused trades in the same vicinity. She said on June 16, at about 2230 hours, the accused returned from town and saw the victim outside urinating, and asked her to accompany him to attend to natures call. She said the victim obliged and on their way, he told the victim to lie down on a veranda of a building, removed her pants and had sexual intercourse with her. The prosecution said after the act Joseph asked the victim not to disclose the ordeal to the complainant else she would die. However a good Samaritan who saw the two at the odd hour, suspected foul play so he decided to follow them at a distant until they entered the house. ASP Suleman said the Good Samaritan then questioned the accused as to what he was doing with the victim. The Good Samaritan met the victim�s grandmother and told her the incident. She told the court that the grandmother also informed the complainant who confronted the victim and she narrated the incident to her. A report was made to the police and a medical report form was issued to the complainant to send the victim to the hospital. The report was brought back indicating that the victim�s hymen had been broken. The prosecution said Joseph was arrested and he admitted in his caution statement that he told the victim to accompany him to attend to natures call but never had sexual intercourse with her.
