A 29-year-old cashier who has been found guilty of stealing an amount of GH₵16,512, belonging to her employers, has been fined GH₵3,600 by an Accra Circuit Court or go to jail for 15 months in default. The court also ordered her to refund the said stolen amount to her employers Family Health Hospital, Teshie. She has already paid GH₵7,000 of the amount, leaving a balance of GH₵9,512. The convict, Ruth Kottoh, was arrested when the head of the accounts (name withheld) at her outfit detected some discrepancies in the records during a routine check. According to the Teshie District Police Commander, DSP Simon Agbodeka, after the head of accounts discovered the discrepancies, he confronted Ruth, who admitted the offence. DSP Agbodeka stated that the head of accounts then proceeded to report the matter to the management team, who later notified the police, which led to Ruths arrest. During investigations, it was revealed that only two months into the convicts employment, she developed a strategy of stealing various sums of money from her employers by printing out her daily records before her closing time and pocketing subsequent payments. The convict, in her caution statement, said he took the money daily for her upkeep. Ruth was employed in July 2013 and her dubious strategy was discovered in April 2014.
