Biometric Registration Begins In Ashanti For NHIS Cards

The biometric registration for the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cards has started in the Ashanti Region with 10 out of the 25 districts. The process is very smooth as compared to what was witnessed in the Greater Accra Region. Despite the huge turnout, the process is very orderly, apparently due to the education on the exercise by the Regional Director, Mr Daniel A. Frempong, and his team, who are urging people to continue to use the old card until it expires. A two-member team from the National Insurance Authority headquarters, made up of the Deputy Director, Mr Vitus G. Kaleo-Bioh, and the Marketing Manager, Mr Oswald Essuah-Mensah, joined the Ashanti Regional team to tour the Asokwa Sub-metro and the Ejisu-Juabeng offices to assess and monitor the exercise. The exercise, which started on July 9 this year, covers 25 districts in the region and is expected to end by the middle of next month. Five districts are being tackled in a week. Already, three regions, Greater Accra, Central and Eastern regions, are on stream and the authority hopes to cover the entire country by the end of the year. Mr Essuah-Mensah said the biometric exercise was to streamline and authenticate the issuance of the cards. The District Manager at Asokwa, Ms Martha Antwiwaa, said 2,585 people had already been registered.
