Some residents of Manhean and neighbouring communities in the Ga West Municipal Assembly in the Amasaman Constituency are demonstrating to protest what they call the deplorable state of roads and drainage in the area. The demonstration which is themed �medofo Adaadaa me� will also be used to register the displeasure of the people about their Member of Parliament (MP) and Municipal Chief Executive. "Our roads are highly deteriorating, and the MP and Municipal Chief Executive are not helping us; the MP was voted into power two years ago and he has never stepped foot here before,�� Nii Lomotey, one of the demonstrator�s told Citi News. He added that the demonstration is to alert President Mahama about the challenges of the people: "� This is to let the president know that there are some people who voted him into power.�� "The road situation here is bad; we�ve been driving through man-holes,�� he fumed. According to him, the group served notice to the police. There has been a proliferation of strikes in the country for different reasons, especially for economic hardship. The Polytechnic Teachers Association of Ghana (POTAG) have been on strike since the second quarter of the year, Railway workers are also currently on strike, Health workers, The Industrial and Commercial Workers� Union (ICU) -Ghana and the Trades Union Congress are all protesting in one way or the other. Organised Labour will on Thursday embark on a nationwide strike in what could be the biggest demonstration by Ghanaians against government�s economic mismanagement, poor fiscal policies and growing hardship in the country in the last 15 years. Organised Labour, made up of 18 affiliates of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and professional bodies and associations in the country, explained that the nationwide strike- which could bring economic activities and government business to a halt- is intended to signal the ruling party of labour�s disapproval of the recent hikes in petroleum and utility charges, as well as the prevailing economic and social conditions. Meanwhile, Government has made a passionate appeal to Organised Labour to rescind its decision to embark on a nationwide demonstration on Thursday.
