The Dansoman Divisional Police Command has arrested three individuals believed to have embarked on a robbery spree in Dansoman and its environs. The suspects, Mohamadu Mumuni, alias Osaman, 20, Ali Mohammed, aka Kosei, 20, both porters, and Nasiru Mohammed Tanko, aka Gaza, 28, all foreigners from Niger and Benin respectively, within a period of an hour and a half robbed three persons at different locations, according to the police. The Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent Antwi Tabi, while briefing the press yesterday in Accra, indicated that one other person, who was part of the robbery spree, is currently on the run. The Divisional Commander said that the suspects were arrested upon a tipoff and information gathered by the service. According to the police, the suspects, in July, 2012, at about 1:30 a.m., used weapons to attack one Ephraim Nii Otoo, a caterer living at Russia, a suburb of Dansoman, and made away with his Techno mobile phone, tablet phone, and GH800. About 30 minutes later the same day, the suspects covered their faces with handkerchiefs, and with weapons attacked another resident of the area, Miss Sandra Barnes, who is a university student of her two laptops, a blackberry mobile phone, flat screen set, and an unspecified amount of money. Chief Superintendent Antwi Tabi said one of the suspects hit the victim with a cutlass, and in the process the handkerchief covering his face dropped, and sensing the danger that he could be identified by the victim, threatened to kill her. They managed to escape with the booty, after the fruitless attempt by the complainant in raising an alarm, he added. The suspects, within a matter of another 30 minutes (2:30 a.m.) making it one and a half hours after the first incident, attacked and robbed Kafui Girentsi and David Brown in their room at Banana Inn. According to the Commander, the said robbers, with weapons, escorted Kafui Girentsi, who had then come out to urinate, into the room and robbed them of their two laptops, three mobile phones, two digital cameras, one Expresso internet modem, one earth resistant tester, pen drives, 8mm electrical cables, and GH400. The suspects locked the victims up in their room and escaped. They shouted for help, and their co-tenants opened them to regain their freedom, and a complainant was made to the police, he stated. The Commander said on July 2, 2014 Mohamadu Mumuni, alias Osaman, upon police intelligence was arrested at his hideout at Kokomba market, and when a search was conducted in his kiosk, the first complainants mobile phone, and the 3mm electrical cables were found with him. Mohamadu Mumuni, after his arrest, admitted to the crime, and led the police to arrest Ali Mohammed, aka Kosei and Nasiru Mohammed Tanko, aka Gaza. On 18 July this year, Nasiru Mohammed Tanko aka Gaza was arrested. During investigation, he admitted the offence, as indicated by A1 and A2, he added. On July 27, 2014, two of the accused persons, Mohamadu Mumuni and Ali Mohammed, appeared before an Accra Circuit Court, presided over by Justice Francis Obiri, and were sentenced to 20 years each in prison. However, Nasiru Mohammed Tanko, even though admitted the crime, pleaded not guilty, and has been remanded into police custody.
